Disclaimer: I have been waiting to make this post because I hadn't uploaded the pictures off of my camera yet. We left for Arizona, camera in tow and I had plans to upload all the pictures and finally make this post. But alas, our camera was left on a little train in some small park in the middle of Scottsdale, Arizona. I will not name the guilty party, but I will say that it was not me. So unfortunatly the pictures from Mason's second Halloween (along with many other cute pictures from the beginning of our vacation) are forever lost. sigh.
We are on the activities comittee in our ward (church) again and so our first task was to plan the annual Halloween party. I think it turned out pretty cool, if I do say so myself. For dinner we had chili, hot chocolate and homemade rootbeer (for the dry ice effect). Then we did a craft table, guessing games, a fishing booth, donuts on a string, pin the nose on the pumpkin, and a pre-carved pumpkin contest. Thanks to a guy in our ward we had some awesome decorations, including a smoke machine. It turned out really cool. I didn't take a ton of pictures because I was busy hot glueing googley eyes and filling up crock pots. We had fun. Mason just took care of himself since Nic and I were so busy. I'm worried that some of the costumes gave him nightmares though since he woke up screaming for the next few nights.
Due to the theory that Mason was having nightmares, we decided not to take him out to trick or treat on Halloween night. (I also knew that most of the candy he would get would be consumed by us.) However, after a few groups of trick or treaters came to our house Mason started to say, "Tri-Treat. Mo' pees". (Translation: Trick or Treat. More Please.) He would walk up to our candy bowl and try to repeat what he saw at the door. So I decided to take him out, and much to our surprise he totally got it. He grabbed his pumpkin and ran from door to door. He learned how to knock on the door and when someone opened it he would say "Tri-Treat. Mo' pees." At one point, while waiting with other treat or treaters for someone to answer their door, he looked inside of his pumpkin and his eyes got huge as he said, "ooooooooo". It was pretty humorous. He did the same thing when a guy pulled out a huge bowl of candy and told him to go crazy. The funny thing is though is that when people would tell him to take a whole bunch he would politely take one piece, but it in his pumpkin and walk away. Obviously not my child. I wanted to go back and take full advantage of the generosity of people, but alas I did not.
Overall we had a really fun night. Oh- and I wanted to mention something about his costume. I really wanted him to pick out his own costume. The problem is that he likes cars, trucks, airplanes and trains. All of which are difficult to find in costume form appropriate for a 20 month old. We did find this Thomas the Train apron thing. I didn't love it. It was kind of cheesy and boring. But everytime we looked at costumes this was the only one he got excited about. So how could I make him dress up as anything else? Regardless of its cheesiness, I think he looked pretty cute.
