Sage turns 2!

Sage turned two on May 20th. Her birthday fell on a Sunday, so Saturday night we had a BBQ with most (but not quite all) of Nic's family being able to attend. Sage LOVED having her cousins stay the night at our house and I think she had a pretty fun day. All weekend long, if you said to her "Sage its your birthday!" she'd reply "YAY!!"

Her birthday was butterfly themed. She called the chocolate butterflies that I made for her cake "butterfly bites" and she strongly preferred them to cupcakes themselves.

She gave daddy kisses for about a half an hour. She really loves her daddy.

 Opening some presents

On her actual birthday we ditched stake conference like the rebels we are and went to temple square.

After a fun filled day of running around outside and playing with cousins, Sage passed out in the car. So we took the opportunity to put together her birthday present. When she woke up she was pretty excited to see her new club house. Hours have spent in this thing making pretend food, answering the phone, and walking in and out and in and out. Most nights she insists on eating on the tiny table that is inside.

Sage's birthday was also the solar eclipse. While the kids played in the club house, Nic and I spend far too long trying to get the perfect view with our homemade solar eclipse looker-atter.

Fun Facts about our Sagie girl:
  • This girl has personality bursting from every pore. She is a super funny girl who loves to be silly.
  • She likes to make silly faces and laugh.
  • Her favorite catch phrases are "I'm alright. I'm okay" (Said whenever she falls down. Or sneezes. Or coughs. Or just wants us to know she is there). "I'm right here." (Said as she plops down next to you or anytime someone is crying or upset.)
  • She is speaking in full sentences and is pretty easy to understand. She says so many funny things all day long. Like the other day she walked up to the horse in my parent's pasture and said, "Oh, hi there sweetheart."
  • She loves animals. All animals. Or bugs. Or anything that moves.
  • She can count to twelve without help. (This is after a phase where she would get to eleven and just keep saying "eleben eleben eleben" over and over.)
  • She can say her ABC's (with a little help).
  • She loves to sing and can be heard singing while she plays.
  • Her favorite songs are: Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Sunbeam, Temple song, Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head, a made up Butterfly song, and pretty much any other song we can make up together.
  • She is surprisingly quick to say sorry after she throws a fit or does something wrong. (knock on wood that it lasts).
  • She loves to do anything Mason does. Including trying to jump off of things that are way to high for her to jump off of.
  • She loves to dance.
  • If you tell her she is a big girl she says, "No. I'm tiny."
  • She is pretty laid back and usually goes with the flow.
  • She will eat most things, if she chooses to eat at all. Gotta love the toddler phase.
  • She likes to play hide and go seek and when she finds you she said, "I surprise you!!"
  • She is extremely independent and wants to do everything "myself!!!" It takes some serious patience sometimes, but at least she is learning, right?
  • She likes to read books.
  • She is showing signs that she might be ready to start potty training. I am just not ready to start potty training. I guess I better get my act together.
  • She remains pretty sensitive to what others are feeling. She still gets pretty concerned when she hears a baby crying in the grocery store.
  • I wish I could just capture the essence of Sage every day. She is really such a joy to be with. She is quirky and funny and sweet. She has us all wrapped around her little finger. The other day Nic (who is infatuated with his baby girl) was telling me that she is like a melty marshmellow all squishy and sweet and adorable, etc etc. He said to Sage, "Sagie, you just break me heart." To which Sage replied in a very concerned voice (her inflection always going up at the end) "Daddy, I no break your heart." So Nic said, "Okay, you just melt my heart". "Okay Daddy. I melt you heart. Not break your heart". And she spend the rest of the day twinkling her fingers in my armpit trying to "fix my broken heart."
We love you Sage. You are the light of our lives.
